Salutations Style Mavens!
This week is one of the few weeks in fashion that we followers look forward to for months. Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York is one of the biggest events of the year for anyone having a passionate love affair with fashion. If you’re anything like me, you spent last week preparing your schedule around each show that you deemed a personal must-see, scheduling meetings, work, study sessions and the like around them, similar to a parent planning to attend their child’s recital.
Well lads and ladies, our time has come! Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is here and has started off strong! The first day of MBFW began with Nicholas K at 9 a.m., rounding out with Irina Shabayeva at 9 p.m. In between, the looks of Porter Grey, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Richard Chai, Duckie Brown, Mara Hoffman, Luca Luca, Tadashi Shoji, Eva Minge and Christian Siriano were all featured, in that order. I have to admit, after seeing yesterday’s shows, I am salivating with anticipation of what the rest of the week has in store.
We have decided to not only update you on the happenings of MBFW, but to also share with you some of our favorite looks from the tents. To do so, we are launching our “Look of the Day”. Each day, we will post one look that in our opinion, stood out among the others from the day before. I’m sure that there will be shows that are out of this world, so we ask that you prepare yourself accordingly; the amount of beauty that will be seen is not for fashion’s faint of heart, and we can’t wait to take it all in!
However in all of our excitement, let us not forget that on this day 1 year ago, our world lost a member of its own. Let us remember Alexander McQueen today for his creative genius; let us also take a moment to reflect on the gift he has left us all: the gift of his heart and soul, expressed and executed through his designs. He was truly an artist, and in my opinion, one of the greatest of our time; there can never and will never be another. ALL HAIL MCQUEEN!
