It’s not often that Columbia is graced with the presence of international fashion brands but with VanJean on our side, it’s not unheard of. For yesterday and today, the women at VanJean hosted Taylor and Carly from Tibi for their Fall and Holiday Fashion Event.

Spurred by Tibi’s appreciation for their number one selling boutique in the south-east, the event was an intimate affair with both Carly and Taylor dressed appropriately in head to toe Tibi. While Amy Smilovic, the designer for the brand, was unavailable due to a launch event at Bloomingdales, the two were able to walk me through the Tibi Fall 2011 collection, and even give a few suggestions for fall trends.

“Our core girl is a young, downtown girl,” said Carly. “She works her passion and spends money on Tibi clothes!”

So for this season the brand presented the girl with a wardrobe of separates and solids. Carly confessed that the black camisole that she was wearing couldn’t seem to be kept in stock as they were continually being ordered. While dresses are still very appropriate for evening events the brand finds a lot of the customers would just as soon wear some of the menswear inspired pieces they presented for the season.

They haven’t completely forgotten the prints though, as the collection does contain a few stunning ones. Instead, Carly explained that they had begun narrowing down the amount of prints they offered, focusing in on a few amazing ones, and sticking with those.

“Everything in this collection is effortlessly chic” said Taylor, rocking one of the cocktail dresses with an open back.

And certainly it was, with an overarching influence of menswear techniques, the collection comes off as simple, and chic. Ruffled blouses, and tuxedo pants don’t appear fussy, nor mundane, but instead are widely utilitarian, done in rich fabrics, adding just the right amount of luxury.

The event will continue tomorrow from 10AM until 6PM and you are able to preview/pre-order the Resort 2012 collection. Also every Tibi purchase will earn you a gift and an entry to a raffle for one of ten sketches by Tibi designer, Amy Smilovic!
