The fall fashion event schedule continues this week with Vineyard Vines dropping by Devine Street retailer, Brittons of Columbia to show off their Fall 2011 wares.

“Bow ties are pretty southern,” said Betsy Cartensen, a sales representative present at the show. “The average southern man would wear a bow tie.”

Betsy said that she’s found that bow ties are becoming more common place and whereas in New England there might be a bit more of a confidence factor in wearing one of the dandy accessories, in the South she’s been seeing a rise in bow tie sales.

Vineyard Vines isn’t by far a “bow tie” label. In business since 1998, the label is a go to for Carolina Cup/male game day attire. Offering up a collection of club pants, polos and jackets every season, the brand was recently known most notably for their patchwork paisley prints they presented for the spring. This fall though, items carried a bit of visual simplicity.

“Ginghams are huge for fall. Flanells – alot of casual but really comfortable pieces are good for this fall.” said Betsy when asked about fall trends.

While the Brittons trunk show was an event exclusive to Columbia, Vineyard Vines is currently in the midst of their Whalegate tour. Because of this they will be back on campus for the Carolina/Clemson football game on November 26. In addition to that, Betsy said that the brand might be back for next year’s Carolina Cup.

“We are sponsoring the Kentucky Derby through 2013 so we have a great collection around horse racing,” said Betsy.
