With a large amount of members wanting to be buyers, it was a no brainer to Fashion Board whether or not to accept the invitation to attend Atlanta Apparel Market at AmericasMart. So after receiving applications and deciding on the members, the Board packed up and took a road trip down to the event.
While there they were able to watch a fashion show, listen to industry personnel talk about the current trends and discover up and coming designers in their showrooms. Plans include distribution of this year’s official Fashion Board shirts, assigning committees for USC Fashion Week preparations and distributing information about the Student Designer Showcase: Season 2! The Board will also have a fire sale of older shirts that may be purchased in cash.
The meeting comes right after a successful trip to Atlanta for Apparel Market.

It’s always pleasing to learn that Fashion Board at USC alumni are doing well, so when we heard that past Board two term president Marquis Bias, got his first solo red carpet styling credit, you can only imagine how excited we were for him!
The current assistant to the fashion director for the Miss Universe Organization styled Teyonah Parris who was apart of the nominated cast of Mad Men, in a one shoulder ML Monique Lhuillier gown, Ben Amun earrings and bracelet, and Swarovski ring.
Fashion designer Trina Turk will present her Spring 2013 collection at the Eleventh Annual Girls Night Out presented by EdVenture Children’s Museum and Coplon’s on March 14!
With promises to be a night of food, fun and fashion, the signature fundraiser for the museum is an event not to miss at 701 Whaley. Last year Chris Benz was the feature designer of the night

The Fashion Board at USC begins the Spring 2013 semester with its first meeting on Wednesday, January 16, 2013!
Held in the same room that the Board has met in for years – Coliseum Room 3001 – the meeting will serve as a general introduction to the semester. The new Executive Board will introduce themselves and preview the semester’s planned programming. Interested students will be able to find out about how to become a member(dues must be paid online here). Among the events to be discussed are SHE Columbia: The Ultimate Girls’ Weekend as well as USC Fashion Week already scheduled for April 7-12!

Congratulations to Miss South Carolina Ali A Rogers for being named first runner-up for Miss America 2013! After winning the Children’s Miracle Network Miracle Maker award and a preliminary Lifestyle and Fitness award, the Laurens county native performed Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back” for the talent component of the competition.
Ali will be named Miss America if the current Miss America can’t fulfill her duties.
Hearon is the founder of The Heart Beet, an online magazine, and has recently launched three jewelry lines: The Heart Knot, Queenie Cuffs and Mary Keys. Because of this Hearon is searching for two interns to help with the business!
Requirements: Students must have a love for fashion, an excellent understanding of cyber worlds including social media, clear written communication skills, an eager sense of learning and resourcefulness, and their own transportation.

On Saturday, December 1 the Fashion Board at USC will return to Five Points for the fifth annual Festivus celebration.
After a successful outing at last year’s Festivus, which saw past presidents Marquis Bias(founder of USC Fashion Week and now assistant to the fashion director of MISS USA) and Melissa Karl(now assistant accessories editor of Interview Magazine) along with members, live tweeting the festivities which included, among other things, flash mob carolers, holiday parties and trunk shows.
This year, with plans to meet up around 5PM at the fountain, the Board will be able to enjoy interactive art, buskers, hot chocolate, another trunk show by Mamie Ruth as well as a variety of specials and deals. On Saturday, November 16 members of Fashion Board at USC dispatched for a morning at the Colonial Cup in Camden, South Carolina.
While doing research, the team got to enjoy the spunky Jack Russell Races, visit the vendors and walk around the Springdale Race Course. This annual set of horse races is complimented by a larger set in the spring, Carolina Cup.
